2019 SJX ACADEMIC Scholarship Charter
This scholarship is established to recognize SJX athletes for achieving academic success while rigorously competing in the sport of Water Polo. The entire scholarship fund for the year will be evenly distributed among all qualified athletes from a fund pool based on the age group team.

(A) How to apply and what is the GPA requirements?
Please include the athlete’s current year's final transcript from school in an envelope marked with "SJX Scholarship application" and the age group team. Pass the application to the coach. The scholarship treasurer will acknowledge the application via TeamSnap within 3 business days.
The GPA requirements and its calculation methods are modeled from US Water Polo's Academic All-American program. However, our scholarship does not require the applicant to be in grade10 and above.
(B) How is attendance score kept and calculated?
The coach will keep attendance for practices, scrimmages, and tournaments. 4 points for on-time, 3 points for late, 2 points for absent with notification, 0 points for absent without notification.
(C) My child is on more than one JO roster (i.e U14 and U16), can the player still be qualified for this scholarship under both age group teams?
This scholarship is tied to the primary age group team that the athlete regularly practiced throughout the seasons.
(D) Who is tracking the donations?
The club administrator(s) will answer inquiries about this fund, oversee the donations and timely distribution of the fund. However, a parent treasurer may be nominated by the club to assist some of the paperwork.
(E) Is the donation to the scholarship fund income tax deductible?
The tax implications are the same as other charitable donations to San Jose Express Aquatics. This extends to any company matching if applicable.
(F) How to donate to this fund?
Just like any donation to the club, it can be done via check, PayPal or a corporate charity portal (e.g. Benevity) with a note like “Scholarship Fund for XY group”. The club will acknowledge all received donations online under https://www.sanjoseexpress.org/donate1.html

To qualify for this scholarship, the athlete must
- Achieve the GPA requirements to qualify USA WATER POLO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
- SJX will require a copy of supporting materials as a part of the application.
- Have at least competed for JO qualifier under SJX in an age group team that this fund received donations.
- Be in good standing for practice (90% attendance score) and tournament attendance and exhibits good sportsmanship during the JO season.
- The application deadline is 12 PM on the Monday after the JO qualifiers are completed.
- The club will review all the applications and disperse the scholarship before the last Friday of June as credits that can be used to offset tournament fees or club dues.
