Ice Skating and Water Polo?
Yea, they're both water but what do they have to do with each other?
Well, stick with me a bit and I'll tell you.
See, almost every day my wife, my dog and I go for a walk to downtown Campbell. It's a respite for us and Willow (the dog) loves it. She gets her walk and stares at birds, her favorite thing.
On the way, we pass the Los Gatos Creek Park. Maybe you've driven by it or walked along the trail. It's a great place to go if you haven't.
So almost every day we go, there is a young girl about 11 or 12 practicing her ice skating moves.
Some days she's with her mom. Some days with her coach. And a lot of the time shes all by herself.
I've seen her do stretches. I've seen her do strength work. I've seen her work on her triple axel and landing. She works hard...and she's good. She's good because she works hard.
She's usually there when we walk to downtown...and she's usually there when we walk back. That is about 90 minute workout.
She doesn't have ice, but she's making the most use of her time. For her, it's fun. She enjoys the "push" of getting better and improving. I'm sure she'd much rather be at the ice rink, but she's making the most of what she's got.
As I walk by, I think of our water polo team. They are doing dryland workouts. The are watching tapes with their coaches and teammates.
Good athletes work to perfect their craft. They take the time to put in the effort.
It's not easy. It's not always fun.
But it's worthwhile.
Keep it up Express!
